Boonah's Turn for the Sunday drive

Sunday again, Well the outing was meant to be yesterday at the Rodeo at Canungra but it has been postponed until the 11th July. So we decided that we would go to Boonah.. I was hoping to get into some Antique shops but it would appear that Boonah hasn't caught up on the whole Sunday trade thing quite yet! Well we walked up the main street and went to the loo in the pub *Commercial hotel really nice artwork in there also. Took pictures of us all with some statues and at the grassed area in the council grounds where we bought a hot chicken and some bread rolls from the spar shop and sat on the council steps and laughed Mem (my sister) was pulling apart the hot chicken and making some funny noises and Master 7 says "Mem, you sound like a demented goat!" Now I am not sure that I can honestly say I know what a demented goat sounds like but we just about fell off the stairs with laughter! I love it when we go out with the concept of just being together and spending time together without having to spend a fortune. It took us just over 1 hour to get there so that was ok and we stopped on the way out of Boonah to let the boys have a play on the playground.

Rodeo - Yeeeeehaaaa

So when you decide to go for a drive and you see signs saying "Rodeo" this Friday night and you have never been to one what do you do? You go of course! LOL. So it was set - Friday night. Freezing cold at the Beaudesert Showgrounds I pack up the kids and the hubby and set off! Cold, well yes that would be an understatement but fun.. You bet ya! - I have never seen a Rodeo clown jump a fence as quick as when a very angry bull comes charging for you and not the other rodeo clown.

Had an awesome time and the kids had a ball. There is another one on the 27th June at Canungra so we are going to pack the kids up and go and yell and scream for all the cowboys! oh and cowgirls of course. LOL.. Now talking about cowboys, where's my drink!?

Investiture into Scouts

I was so excited on Wednesday night because my son Joshua was being invested into cubs from Joeys and it was a pretty big night for him. He has been in joeys for almost 2 years and I have been assisting with the books and a leader for about 18 months or so. Well I decided to ring to see if my number/application had been processed to see if we could both be invested on the same night and thankfully it had gone through.. It was an awesome night lead by Rikki (Ally) she is an awesome Cub leader and I thank her for all that she is teaching me. We had a pretty awesome bonfire made by Wabeeno and all the sticks were collected by myself and Joshua for this wonderful night. We had a special guest also who came along to teach the Cubs all about Scouting and the history of scouting and that was Rhama (Rikki's father).

As you can see from the picture I am pretty happy and so was Joshua for getting through the ceremony and knowing the cub scout law. Cub scouts are loyal and obedient Cub scouts do not give into themselves. I love that! This is something that I really wish my parents had gotten me into when we were little. I am an Australian and I would have to say that this year it has been one of the best. I have just gotten home from spending the day with really good friends and laughing and telling stories (some of them not repeatable!) LOL. Throwing some snags on the Barbie, no that isn't throwing sensitive new age guys on the Barbeque! LOL.. Having a cold beer and just in general enjoying each others company. This is something that we as Aussies are good at! Drinking beer and eating! LOL.. Seriously though.. Here are some facts about this wonderful country that I call home...

Australia - just the facts
In land area, Australia is the sixth largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil. It has, however, a relatively small population. Australia is the only nation to govern an entire continent and its outlying islands. The mainland is the largest island and the smallest, flattest continent on Earth. ..." I have always been an artistically inclined since I was 2 years old (so I am told!) I am half native American and started beading jewelry at pow-wows in Baraboo Wisconsin whenever I could drive up there from Chicago at the age of 19. I felt at peace when creating and all the problems in the world seemed to disappear. I let it go for a while and lived it up socially when I turned 21. I went to Florida to visit friends when I was 25 and literally bumped into a psychic lady on St. Petersburg beach. Just like the movies, she was old...strange...mysterious. She told me I should have a business in "the arts or a craft" and only then would I feel fulfilled and this would bring me much success...I have not looked back since. I started to create my own jewelry in polymer clay. I purchased a glass pendant at an art festival in Chicago and was hooked. I have been creating glass full time and steadily (16 hours a day 7 days a week..LOL) for about 4 years now. I try to make each glass piece its own art scene and really concentrate on the element of design. A lot of my design ideas come from dreams and flashes in my mind and I cannot sleep or move on until I get them sketched out on paper. Nature combined with color inspires me most. I am so detailed with my visions that it often can take up to a week and 6 or 7 firings to complete just one piece. Funny how it turns out...almost 10 years later since I met that old woman on the beach, my husband has been offered a job in St. Petersburg Florida and we are re-locating there in April...and I have never been happier. fingers???? Don't go there on this one. My husband has really big fingers and it's very difficult to buy rings that he will wear or that are even close to being big enough for him to wear comfortably so I thought I would get into making some bigger rings. Even for the ladies who find it very difficult to find larger rings you can contact me to discuss how I can help you or someone you know. I started with round sterling silver wire and then soldered it shut, textured it to make it look facetted and it shimmers in all the right places it has then been polished to a brilliant shine. Nearly the end of 2008

Well it's just about over! 2008 that is... I am looking forward to 2009 and getting the creative juices flowing again and I am trying to rid myself of all the "clutter" that is in my life/house. My BFF started to do a room at a time, this is great idea.

I started with my boys room and completely re-arranged it all I removed some things but added some more things. They are very happy about some of the additions like the TV and the PlayStation! LOL.. Hubby not so happy but hey.

Then just before Xmas I decided that I would try the toy room. This is a very big room that had lots of things in it including a pool table, 2 tv's, 2 playstations, pinball machine, a couple of those really big toy boxes, well you get the picture! It still has a lot of things in it but now it's not so cluttered! Which was the idea all along.

Next, well today actually I feel like getting outside it's currently 20 degrees Celsius then sun is shinning and I have some palms that need some tending to because the fronds have died off. So I will get the kids to help me with those this morning then I am off to the Chemist and the post office and the newsagency to get the kids books for 2009 because they are already 1/2 way through their holidays and go back at the end of January. Wow again that goes so fast...

How much time is too much time??

How much time is too much time to be spending on the computer promoting your business on the many variety of tools on the www! Well let's see there is Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, MSN, ICQ just to name a few. Then there is all the chat rooms on the variety of sites like Oztion, Etsy, Ebay, RubyLane. Then you have all the blogs that you need to update all the time in order to try to drive your customer to your preferred site of sales if you actually do sell on the Internet, lets face it though if you don't sell on the Internet you are missing out on the many possible millions of customers who love to shop online and don't have to worry about moving their bottoms off of their comfy chair which has molded very nicely to their butt! LOL.. Yes I have one of those chairs myself!

Well you know that you need to turn off the computer and walk away from it for a day when your hand is permanently stuck in the Microsoft mouse position for one, and when everyone in your family yells out "Mum, I got no undies!" These are two certain things that you really do need to get back to the real world and remove you stuck butt from the computer chair and get outside for some fresh air - or to the clothes line to hang out the 8 loads of washing that you have neglected!

So what are you waiting for? Get off your bottom and go for a walk or do something else for a little while. Then when you get back you can check out my things!

Follow up for Edward

Ok.. So I get all excited.. Get it all arranged with my BFF.. It was me who had checked the website for the times that it would be showing.. When normally it's Michelle who checks all this information and I go along like gospel that what she says is the truth.. LOL.. More fool her this time apparently! We get to the line and there aren't many people in the line and in the "coming soon" window there is my beloved Edward... Oh no.. Panic starts to creep up on me.. The cashier yells "next please" and we hesitantly go to her and ask for two tickets to Twilight please in our most convincing voices that even if it wasn't showing that she would give us the tickets well you know because it was Edward and all that and he was two 30+ something women all googly eyed for Edward Cullen. I am sorry she says that movie is not released until the 11th December! What!!!! I said "oh no, on the Internet it says the times for today" She says "oh yes, that gets everyone, it's the booking page for pre-release tickets!" WTF.... Ok, so now my BFF says "right and I just trusted that you had read it all right" LOL.. She now says that from now on she will just double check or make all the arrangements for us to hang out. LOL

Sorry Michelle... You are the best though!

Edward..... Oh Edward.....

Today I am going to see "Twilight" with my BFF Michelle.... It's her fault I am in lust with a vampire! Yes I have been Edward dreaming! I will confess that at the moment. It's Michelle's fault that I have not been able to put down the books. But you know what it's the best read I have had since well.. I can't remember.... My images of what the stunning Edward should like and Dr Carlisle, Alice, Jasper, Bella and even all their surroundings I have a clear picture in my head of what's going on. I love to read a superb book and well this one would certainly have to rate up there with the best of the best in my opinion. If you haven't read "Twilight" you don't know what your missing, however, having said that and seeing some of the reviews for the movie you might want to go and see the movie first then read the book then get the next one and the next one to begin your life with Edward Cullen and his mysterious family of Vampires. Ok, yes I do sound like I am well you know RIGHT into the book...

Project wonderful and how to make the most of it.

Here is another site that will get you sucked in for at least a couple of hours! This site is called "project wonderful" it's actually a very good site for advertising on the net for a fairly reasonable price in most cases.. I would recommend that you have avatars, logo's already to go so that you don't have to loose precious time in setting them up the most popular sizes are 117 x 30, 125 x 125, 234 x 60 and 468 x 60. You can also set up custom campaigns https://www.projectwonderful.com/newcampaign.php so that the site will search for you instead of searching for those sites. This is a wonderful tool to use.

These can be done in programs like photoshop, picassa etc. Then you will need to go in and set up an account (if you haven't already done so) and then go searching for pages that currently don't have any 'bids' on them this is the best way to get yourself into the feel of what you are looking for with your advertising.

Make sure you go and have a look at the website first before you say oh yes that ones free! It might be on a site that you really don't want to have your name associated with. With the ones that are free though you can set up searches that will email you when new spots become available for you to purchase.

This as I mentioned is a fabulous way to kill a morning! and if your blog is doing well with visitor counts then why not add project wonderful to your site and great exposure for doing the blogging that you love to do. The sites can be searched by the number of visitors etc.

I quite often have requests for making up a piece of jewellery that a customer already has either a favourite gemstone or a design that they have in mind but can't afford to have a jewellery store make for them. So today I thought I would share with you just a couple of the custom orders that I have done for my wonderful customers. Wire wrapping gemstones is one of my all time favourite things to do. I use 14kt gold filled wire and sterling silver wire. I also have Argentium wire. I love to create with PMC also, only problem I have with the PMC is that it costs so darn much.

This is what I did with this piece for the customer.

Here is another custom order. This piece was designed by me with just an idea from the customer who wanted a special bangle for her neice's 18th birthday.

Networking

I decided that today I would spend most of the day instead of creating jewellery to go networking. I went onto the Etsy forums and found a wonderful post by Battlemaiden so I decided to get right into it and start adding some of the wonderful Estians that I have found. There are a lot of great people out there and you know that they have friends and that they have friends also so this is how the wonderful world of networking is managing to make it's mark in 2008 is via the internet. You know how wonderful it is to just sit at your computer and not have to leave it to do birthday present, Christmas present and I love you kind of shopping. Well if you don't have many friends or friends that have already purchased wonderful designs or creations from you then why not get your name out there on as many avenues as you possibly can! I say go for it. It doesn't need a lot of time. Just a little bit of patience and set up time and then it should pretty much look after itself. A word of advice though. Don't go putting too much background things, music or flashy images etc on your page because someone like myself will back out of your page before it even loads. How many places do you try to advertise about what you sell online? For me personally I have been blogging, word of mouth, emailing previous customers and just recently I have done a youtube video. You can see that here http://www.youtube.com/jensjewellery

I have tried to balance my advertising, cleaning, family time and creating and not terribly succeeding with any of it! I think I will need to get a timer and then set aside a certain amount of time each day to do specific things! The thing I have found that has not had as much attention recently is the creating part, I would like to get more time to do this but because each piece takes so long to create I don't want to start something and then have to stop because the "timer" goes off and says that you now have to do cleaning! LOL
